The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation was established in 1955 with the mission “to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people with the disease the opportunity to lead full, productive lives by funding research and drug development, promoting individualized treatment, and ensuring access to high-quality, specialized care.”

According to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, “Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. In people with CF, a defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections. Cystic fibrosis also obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down food and absorb vital nutrients.”

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to attacking cystic fibrosis. Their focus is to support the development of new drugs to fight CF, improve the quality of life for those with CF, and ultimately to find a cure for CF. The foundation functions as research pioneers, fundraisers, advocates, caregivers, and information providers for those with cystic fibrosis. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has funded more research for CF than any other organization and almost every CF drug available was made possible by the foundation.

The foundation will not stop fighting until there is a cure, “We have achieved remarkable progress in our work to discover and develop new treatments, but the lives of people with cystic fibrosis are still cut far too short. With the public’s continued support, we will pursue every opportunity to help ensure people with CF have the best health and quality of life possible. We will not rest until we find a cure.” President and CEO, Robert J. Beall, Ph.D.
